You're right on both points (and thanks for the patch which seems
correct).

The split indeed deserves *at least* a mention in NEWS.Debian. I even
wonder whether it deserves more. After all, if we end up with our
users "losing" binary utilities such as smblookup or nmblookup because
of the split, then we need to do something. On my profesionnal samba
servers, I happen to have several utility scripts that indeed use
smblookup to perform various tasks  over the network (such as
identifying Windws machines that come on the network without being
properly declared in the DNS...being able to spot them with their
"Windows name" often helps a lot finding the person whowe'll hit with
our base-ball bat)..
