I can confirm this to be working. I rolled my own bacula Debian packages based on the ones from John, incorporated the updates and fixes from this thread, held my breath and updated my system. There where some minor, packaging related problems but the sqlite upgrade went fine and a test backup and restore have shown no problems or errors so far.
