Based on this, and the fact that joy2key works for me too (when run with
-dev /dev/input/js0), I don't think this bug is release-critical, so I'm
dropping the severity of this bug to important.

Upstream release 1.6.3 apparently fixes this, as well as picking up many
pending patches from Debian and other distributions; it would probably be
well worth packaging.
