My bad, I was somehow abused by the error message about VTK_JAVA_JAR and my comment in bug #533193 was wrong. This value is ignored when installing files and generating VTKConfig.cmake, and moreover vtk.jar is installed at the wrong place because of this upstream bug: http://www.vtk.org/Bug/view.php?id=8750 I committed a workaround a couple of weeks ago, vtk.jar is installed into debian/tmp/usr/share/java/vtk/vtk.jar and then copied into debian/libvtk-java/usr/share/java/vtk.jar . This is really ugly, I would love to see a better way. I am pretty sure that this bug has been introduced when trying to play with versioned jars in order to be able to install both VTK 5.2 and 5.4 Java wrappers, but this seems to be very fragile, any advice would surely be helpful.
