Can you please provide complete informations on the packages involved? You write package postresql and version 8.3.9, though that's not the exact version. You also left out the other informations that reportbug would put into the bugreport, like your system informations including on which release you are (stable, testing, unstable) and what dependency packages you have installed. It would be helpful to have these informations to be able to track down further what the issue is. Thanks!
