Backporting ocaml isn't an easy task, since you'll have to have all OCaml libraries recompiled. Besides, the workflow used in Lenny doesn't help to spot easily what needs to be recompiled. This should be fixed with the approach now used in Squeeze. We often use versioned dependencies to ocaml to ease OCaml transitions even though the package being compiled would also work with the previous version of OCaml. This should be explicit in the Debian changelog. Did you try to remove the versioned dependency?
