I do not know exactly about the bug I'm replying to because I upgraded a few packages in the meantime. So I'll probably not be able to answer this specific bug. However, I still had another similar issue about version dependencies:

I have python-ufl = 0.5.1-1 < 0.5.2-1. And that is not the problem. The problem is, in fact, that python-ffc 0.9.0-1 relies on python-ufc 1.4.0-1, or at least > 1.2.0-2.

Indeed, the templates.py file is not in the python ufc package for version 1.2.0-2.

So the __import__ statement loading ffc failed.

As a general statement, the bug comes from the fact that my system has a rather conservative APT policy. Your packages often track the latest releases, and the version dependencies are not always correct.
