I haven't given it much thought. I suspect the release team won't love the idea of a brand new version, but the alternative is just to remove PHPwiki entirely. I don't have time to trawl through the upstream repository to determine which patches need backporting (at a quick glance a few weeks ago it was a non-trivial number). If you're willing to contribute a backport patch to make the current version work with PHP 5.3 and are willing to provide ongoing support for that patch until a new upstream version is released then I would be more than happy to consider it.
