That's because for upstream, we would expect you to use the latest release. If you want Debian to fix it, they will need to use the same release they pushed out with squeeze (2.4.23), so they will need to know what is causing the problem so they can find the specific fix that resolves your issue. Most likely, since you filed the bug, they would hope you would track it down, since you are the only person who has ever encountered it, making it particularly difficult for the Debian maintainers to eve know where start to look for a solution.
