At this point I'm not sure whether the gcj problem is the only problem :-/ so I would really appreciate it if you could try a build on your good machine and comment on #613539 to describe the outcome.
"dpkg-buildpackage -B -uc" went fine on my kfreebsd-amd64 machine. It is "Intel Core2 Duo CPU E6750", 2 GB RAM and 4 GB of swap.
