Hi, All these `cannot load such file -- mkmf` bugs are caused by ruby-pkg-tools calling /usr/bin/ruby instead of /usr/bin/ruby1.8 explicitly. I've just uploaded a fixed version to unstable.
Many of the other bugs associated with the switch to Ruby 1.9 [1] may also be caused by this.
