Package: bind9
Version: 1:9.7.3.dfsg-1~squeeze7
Severity: serious

Hi,

during a test with piuparts I noticed your package modifies a shipped
file in /usr. /usr/share/bind9/bind9-default.md5sum is used by the
postinst to store the md5sum of /etc/default/bind9. This file will be
overwritten on upgrades, so the state information is lost before it can
be reused by the postinst of the upgraded version.
Shouldn't some state information better be kept in /var?

Setting a high severity for this bug since I don't fully understand the
configuration process and the possible implications of this problem.

>From the attached logfile:
0m14.9s ERROR: FAIL: debsums reports modifications inside the chroot:
  /usr/share/bind9/bind9-default.md5sum
