Package: lvm2
Version: 2.02.95-4
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 9.3.3
On a fresh boot from a liveCD, I install lvm2 and start setting up my encrypted
hard drive. However, regardless of the name I choose, lvcreate gives the
following error:
/dev/VGNAME/LVNAME: not found: device not cleared
Aborting. Failed to wipe start of new LV.
At this point the logical volume is in an inconsitent state and to recover I
have just removed the entire volume group and started over.
An Internet search shows that I am not the only one with this problem. This
discussion on the debian-user list provides the most details:
http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2012/12/msg00407.html
lvcreate works find if after installing lvm2 I run "service restart udev"
To avoid this problem, the lvm2 install script should be reloading the udev
rules if udev is in use.
