Hi, Just as a bookmark for potential other users facing a similar problem, I think I was also affected by this bug with another printer ("Ricoh Aficio MP 3350").
The symptom was first a failure to print files (at least PDF files), with an error message "Filter failed". I then dug into cups web interface and tried to look at the printer driver configuration. There I noticed that I could not find "Ricoh Aficio MP 3350" in the driver list, although the current driver was in fact "Ricoh Aficio MP 3350". Thanks to this bug report #749384 mentioning missing drivers, I updated printer-driver-gutenprint from 5.2.10~pre2-2 (testing) to 5.2.10-1 (unstable). Then I was able to select the appropriate newer driver. Unfortunately, it didn't work out-of-box, and I had to take some additional steps. Indeed, the web interface was reporting that the "ppd file" was stuck at version 5.2.9. I'm not at all familiar with the internals of gutenprint and ppd files, but thanks to another bug report (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/932882), I ran this manual update command : # cups-genppdupdate # invoke-rc.d cups restart and now the printer works again... Maybe this short report may help some others. Extra question: should the non-update of ppd files be reported as new bug ? best, Pierre
