Package: init-select
Version: 1.20140309
Severity: serious

Dear Maintainer,

I am sorry if this report comes too harsh but my impression is that this
package is not suitable for a release and therefore I have set the
Severity that way. Feel free to change but please with sufficient
reasons.

Things that make me not comfortable:

a) the debconf selection was not displayed to me when I first installed
the package. Why? No idea. Running "dpkg-reconfigure init-select" later
has displayed that selection menu.

b) the menu displays all four inits regardless of which is installed.
This is utterly misleading. It should not display the not available ones
or report visibly that they are not there and user has to do in order to
fix it.

c) the package does not do anything if you specify a wrong one

d) it's not clear what to do with this package anyway. The description
is almost worthless. The manual pages are hard to find (try "apropos
init-select") and don't explain much. Running with -h or --help or no
option has weird results:

# set-init
/sbin/set-init: 3: /sbin/set-init: cannot create : Directory nonexistent

Huh?

# get-init -h

So, sorry, that is by far not the user experience which I expect from a
package which touches the essential parts of the system.

Regards,
Eduard.
