Just to be clear, my intent was not to use docker with an old kernel. I was just deploying a system whose configuration included docker, and since docker started up despite the old kernel version, it was used as part of the deployment. This could happen lots of other ways too, like the wrong kernel being chosen in a boot menu. I agree that docker should refuse to run if used with an old kernel. This could be done in the Debian init script if not upstream. -- see shy jo
