ghc generates LLVM bytecode that is relatively specific to the particular version of LLVM, and upstream only supports one specific version per GHC. I’d like to avoid the risky business to patch around in the internals of the code generator here. The next version of GHC, which is already released by upstream (7.10) uses LLVM 3.5 or 3.6 (not sure which one right now). My estimate is that we’ll have that in Debian unstable in maybe 3 or 4 months.
