Please install network-manager-dbg and provide a proper backtrace of when the NetworkManager daemon crashes. Your other problems (timeouts, no reboot etc) point to a more general problem which don't look directly related to NetworkManger. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
