Well, as I told, firefox (in debian iceweasle). I do not use that many graphical tools so I do not know others. There is already a good working system with mailcap how to open files in applications. That allows to configure mailcap.order. I see no real reason why to invent the wheel again with .desktop files. However, that might be my own view of the stuff.
