Sounds like if only kwin_wayland is installed, which is just strange. I got 
the same result when I missed kwin_x11, but once I installed it and reopened 
the X session everything went just OK.

Can you try removing kwin_wayland and only keeping kwin_x11?

If that doesn't works, can you try installing (or updating) kde-full? Yes, 
that will install the whole stack, but I want to know if it's a dependency 
problem or not.

Also, which video card do you have? Running with which drivers?
