Package: owncloud Version: 7.0.12~dfsg-2 Severity: serious Tags: upstream Upstream doesn’t wish to see their software in Debian anymore. Unless the situation changes in the next few months, owncloud will not be part of Stretch.
Quoting the Debian Developer's Reference [3.1.4]: “If you find that the upstream developers are or become hostile towards Debian or the free software community, you may want to re-consider the need to include the software in Debian. Sometimes the social cost to the Debian community is not worth the benefits the software may bring.” <https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/ch03#upstream-coordination> Fedora also gave up a few months ago, the end of Adam Williamson message applies roughly to us too (I just changed s/Fedora/Debian/): ”Upstream does of course provide ownCloud packages in an OBS repo. They do not follow [Debian] web app packaging policies or unbundling rules, and probably don't work very well with SELinux. Switching from the [Debian] packages to the OBS ones is likely to require moving various things around and config file editing and stuff. I'm not going to document that, sorry. If anyone else does, though, that'd be great.“ <http://www.spinics.net/lists/fedora-devel/msg213491.html> Regards David
