This is what I ended up doing. Not sure if this is correct method but seems to have worked. I can now perform an apt-get update && apt-get upgrade.
sudo rm /usr/lib/go -Rf sudo rm /usr/share/doc/golang-doc/ -Rf sudo mkdir /usr/lib/go sudo apt-get -f install sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade Cheers!
