This was known to work. I don't have a Jessie install locally but I do recollect
it working manually. Hence, I've lowered the severity.

The version in Jessie is built with RandR and Vidmode support. It also has
Geoclue1 support, something which was never known to work.

So, effectively, the only option that will work under Jessie is where you
specify the location manually. And I'm surprised that that did not work for you.
It must be something else causing the problem because otherwise there'd have
been a flood of bug reports.

Can you verify, how many instances of redshift are running ?
