Well, porting amide to something else than libgnomecanvas seems to be quite a task - i.e. I have no idea where I would start, and on the other hand, amide just works and is widely used by people who work with image processing, so it would be a shame to have to drop it from Debian. What would be your opinion on offering libgnomecanvas for adoption? My approach would then be to strip out everything that requires gnome-common and gnome-pkg-tooks, possibly also gtk-doc-tools so that the package can continue to be available until upstream ports it or gtk2 is dropped, at which point maintainance really will become impossible. > amide has one more old dependency: scrollkeeper.
