Can you still reproduce this by any chance? If not, do you happen have any idea what version of guile-1.6-libs you had installed at the time, or any idea if you also had slib installed? I ask because I'd like to try to reproduce the problem on a machine here (though it wouldn't be an ia64 machine). The buildd's still failing in a similar way, http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.php?&pkg=guile-1.6&ver=1.6.7-3&arch=ia64&stamp=1146285308&file=log&as=raw though unlike your example above, there's no mention of srfi-1.test.
