I masked the systemd zfs-mount-generator, I’d imagine setting systemd:ignore=on 
would work too yeah.

My problem is that canmount=noauto datasets should not be mounted automatically 
(I mean it’s in the name, isn’t it?) and right now they are being mounted 
automatically (through systemd)

Similarly yeah changing the mountpoint of the backup root or setting 
canmount=off would probably solve the symptom but the cause is still present

Looking at that discussion I do agree that publicizing the change, both in the 
OpenZFS release notes and probably in apt-listchanges(1) too, would have made 
this way more painless :)
