Very similar failures are also affecting emacs-web-server: https://ci.debian.net/data/autopkgtest/unstable/amd64/e/emacs-web-server/31076037/log.gz I suspected the problem could be related to emacs-buttercup, so I updated it locally to the latest upstream version and rebuilt flycheck with it, to no avail.
