Thank you very much for the patch. I am neither a developer nor a debian package maintainer, but I tried my luck with apt-get source, patch -p 0, apt-get -b source and dpkg -i. And now it runs: Starting dynamic swap manager: swapspaceInitial memory status: 1079393600 bytes to spare . So at least for vanilla 2.6.17.4 I can report that the patch works, eventually I will upgrade to 2.6.17.7 before 2.6.18 is out, but here in Germany we currently experience a hot spell so running a Personal Computer in ones overheated home is difficult enough, let alone putting it to work at the moment ;).
