Thanks for your bug report Martin,
xfishtank is implemented by drawing on the root window, which does not
work on modern desktop environments such as KDE or Xfce. It works fine
on XMonad, Openbox, and other traditional window managers, so I'm
downgrading the severity to important.
The project is abandoned upstream, but I'm aware of one revival
attempt[0] which modernizes xfishtank but still draws on the root
window, so this bug would not be fixed. Still, I should package the
latest version from this revival.
I was not aware of Willem Vermin's project. I looked at the gitlab and I
don't know that status of this project. There's a single commit, and no
releases.
