Dear Maintainer,

While investigating recent s390x build failures of libguestfs, I noticed
that variants of

    qemu-img create -f qcow2 -o preallocation=metadata blank-disk-1s.qcow2 512

would hang in what appears a tight loop (100% CPU).

Calling strace on those hanging processes or sending them TSTP and CONT
signals causes them to continue.

Later in the build process, libguestfs-test-tool runs qemu-system-s390x
a few times. Those processes also hang and they can also be "cured" by
sending them TSTP and CONT signals.

Cheers,
-Hilko

Hi Hilko (plus Dipak, fix author on cc for awareness),

Debian kernel package 5.10.179-1 that includes a fix for this has been accepted
into the stable-security (bullseye-security) suite today, and should resolve
this bug.

So let's close this bug report finally.. :)
(Closing without a version tag since the prob wasn't in qemu to begin with)

Thank you all for the good work!
