this applies to both thunderbird 144.0 from experimental and to
1:140.7.1esr-1.
Starting thunderbird gives the following console messsages:
$ thunderbird

error : Permission denied

this souds like you have the AppArmore profile enabled.
There is an other bug report filed about issues related to an outdated
AA profile for Thunderbird. Can you please check if the issue ist still
existing with an disabled AA Thunderbird profile?
