Package: cockpit-machines
Version: 351-1
Severity: serious

qemu dropped support for 32bit hosts in 11.0 version, this support
is not going back. Due to this, libvirt daemon dropped qemu-related
packages on i386 and armhf (and other 32bit architectures).
Due to this, with new libvirt your package fails autopkgtests, and
hence whole set of packages can't migrate to testing.

Please consider dropping (test) dependency on libvirt-system-daemon
on 32bit architectures, or stop building cockpit-machines on these
architectures entirely.

Thank you!

Hello again,

Martin Pitt [2026-05-29 5:44 +0200]:
Hmm, c-machines is Architecture: all. Conceptually, building on just the
supported architectures is right, but it'd have to become arch: any then and
that's difficult because reasons (esbuild yadayada).

I'll make the dependency architecture specific as a quick fix to unblock
migration.

That doesn't actually work:

   Depends: libvirt-daemon-system [amd64 arm64 loong64 mips64el ppc64 ppc64el
riscv64 s390x sparc64],

fails with

dpkg-gencontrol: error: the Depends field contains an arch-specific
dependency but the package 'cockpit-machines' is architecture all

This is the point.

When I filed this bug report, I failed to realize this package is
Architecture: all somehow. I was sure it is arch-any.

And for arch-all package, things are different. In particular, you
don't adjust the package when arch-specific dependencies changes.
Instead, it is the autopkgtest system which just omits testing this
package once the dependencies disappears on some architectures.

So there's nothing to do on your side, nothing at all, this bug report
is useless.

Please excuse me for all this noise and for your attention. I filed
this bug report entirely by mistake.

It is even more: something told me this might not be right, after I
filed it. But at the time I was busy with something else, and I failed
to return to that my thought later when I had some time. So it's twice
bad. *Sigh*.

Closing this bug now.

Please don't rush anything here. Your package is fine.
