* What led up to the situation?
I launched GIMP from the command line. Intially I got this
printed:
$ gimp

I tried the same command a few more times, with the same result. Then
At the suggesion of the Google AI, I tried
$ sudo apt update && sudo apt install libopenexr-3-1-30
which didn't help, then
$ sudo apt-get reinstall gimp
* What was the outcome of this action?
No improvement:
$ gimp

Segmentation fault gimp
$ gimp --verbose --console-messages --debug-handlers
