I made a mistake in the debian/rules and now ircd-hybrid is compiled with epoll on any architectures, although I wanted it to be compiled with epoll only on alpha. However, epoll is specific to linux-2.6 and using it on linux-2.4 will fail. The Sarge system the user might come from when dist-upgrading to Etch can be running under linux-2.4. Therefore, to avoid having ircd-hybrid failing under linux-2.4, we must not use epoll. It is a RC bug, because it renders the package unusable after the upgrade path from Sarge to Etch.
