Package: plm
Version: 2.9.2-1.1
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 2.3 (every file in main needs a known DFSG licence)

Upstream's own COPYING says the licence of these files is not known:

 * img/lang_c.png, img/lang_java.png, img/lang_javascript.png,
   img/lang_python.png, img/lang_ruby.png, img/lang_scala.png: "The logos
   of the programming languages are certainly free, even if I didn't dig
   for their exact licence."
 * src/lessons/sort/pancake/universe/world_pancake.png (and .svg): "It
   seems rather free, but the exact license is not known."
 * img/world_lesson.png (and .svg): "I cannot remember where it comes
   from."

debian/copyright currently covers them with the GPL-3 catch-all, which is
not what upstream says. The copyright rewrite in
https://salsa.debian.org/java-team/plm/-/merge_requests/4 declares them
honestly as of unknown licence, so lintian now reports
license-problem-undefined-license for them.

The fix belongs upstream: replace them with images under a known free
licence (or plain text labels for the language logos). I am happy to
prepare that upstream with Martin.

Regards,
Juan Manuel Méndez Rey

Changes:
 plm (2.9.2+dfsg-1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * Team upload.
   * Port to Scala 2.12 (Scala 2.11 is retired with scala-asm 9.x).
     Backport the source subset of upstream PR #527 (LangScala.java:
     AbstractReporter -> FilteringReporter, display -> doReport, drop the
     removed overrides; Game.java: version strings). scala-2.12-
     port.patch.
   * Adapt the ant build to the Debian 2.12 layout: use the unversioned
     jars in /usr/share/java and add scala-asm.jar to the compiler
     classpath (2.12 no longer bundles scala.tools.asm). scala-2.12-jar-
     paths.patch.
   * Build-Depends on scala (>= 2.12~): the port requires Scala 2.12.
   * Depends on scala (>= 2.12~): PLM needs the 2.12 compiler API
     (FilteringReporter) at runtime, not only at build time.
   * Fix the runtime launcher for Scala 2.12: add scala-asm to the
     classpath (the bytecode backend GenBCode needs scala.tools.asm,
     which 2.12 no longer bundles in scala-compiler.jar) and find scala-
     compiler from /usr/share/java. Depends on scala-asm (>= 9.9.0).
   * Fix Java exercises on JDK 21+ (Closes: #1139926):
     LessonRunner.stopAll() used the deprecated-for-removal
     Thread.stop(); since PLM recompiles that framework source in process
     for Java exercises, it failed to compile on current JDKs (default-
     jdk is now OpenJDK 26). Replace it with cooperative
     Thread.interrupt(). java-mode-jdk-thread-interrupt.patch.
   * Do not sign PLM's internal progress-tracking commits (Closes: #1139932):
     when commit.gpgsign is enabled in the user's git config, jgit failed with
     ServiceUnavailableException and dumped a stack trace to the student
     console on every run (all languages). Call setSign(false) on the
     tracking commits. git-tracking-disable-signing.patch.
   * Show only compilation errors in the in-application console for Java
     exercises: the deprecation/unchecked warnings from PLM's framework
     sources (recompiled in process) were leaking into the student
     console. java-console-show-errors-only.patch.
   * Fix Java exercises that recompile two same-simple-named classes
     (e.g. Buggle exercises hitting plm SourceFile vs scala SourceFile):
     the custom JavaFileManager.list() returned all compiled classes for
     any package query, so javac misread them (class file contains wrong
     class). Filter by the queried package. java-mode-filemanager-
     package-filter.patch.
   * debian/copyright: drop duplicate img/lightbot_light.png glob
     (lintian duplicate-globbing-patterns); it stays under the David
     Vignoni LGPL stanza with the other lightbot action icons.
   * d/copyright: rewrite against upstream's COPYING and licensecheck:
     machine-readable format URL, real holders instead of "unknown" and
     "see COPYING", the LibreOffice, Nuvola (LGPL-2.1), GNOME, KTurtle,
     openclipart and Apple sample code files, standalone paragraphs for
     every licence, and no patterns that match nothing.
   * Move scala from Build-Depends-Indep to Build-Depends: build.xml
     loads the Scala ant tasks at top level, so debian/rules clean (ant
     clean) needs it.
   * Repack without the images that have no known licence and install
     upstream's CC0 replacements from
     https://github.com/BuggleInc/PLM/pull/543 instead, plus a Ruby badge
     in the same style (Closes: #1149689).
   * d/watch: version 5, repack with the +dfsg suffix.
