I don't know how good the new sympa version is tested. In case you want any chance to have it integrated into etch, it needs to be uploaded *now*. Anyways, on reading the bug log, I think that Jean Charles should really given the chance to take over the package - but independent of that the new version should be uploaded *now*, in worst case in an NMU.
