Well, i blamed i-t first, but when i saw the problem in both d-i and i-t, i
guess the common denominator is udev. It could be the kernel too, ubt i did
give 2.6.17 a try, and the same problem happened there, and maks saw something
similar with md/raid on usb-storage.
