Please allow me another remark - I think you should by way force configure to use sane values. Otherwise, you get errors like in http://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?&pkg=net-snmp&ver=5.2.3-6&arch=powerpc&stamp=1166829254&file=log without any related change.
