Hello all,

(DD hat on)

TL;DR: please test final (?) images in US-East-1:
379101102735/debian-squeeze-{i386,amd64}-20121115. SSH as 'admin'.

It's been a hectic couple of days, and with thanks to testing from several
people here, security reviews, and quick work by Anders, I think we have a pair
or images ready for publishing via the AWS Marketplace. The two images are 32 &
64 bit, and are in US-East-1:

*
ami-7a29ad13<https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/home?region=us-east-1>:
379101102735/debian-squeeze-i386-20121115

*
ami-202aae49<https://console.aws.amazon.com/ec2/home?region=us-east-1>:
379101102735/debian-squeeze-amd64-20121115

These images were generated using the euca2ools from ec2debian-build-ami, so we
can be confident this was generated using completely free software. These
images no longer hard-code the Ephemeral (instance store) mounts in the AMI.
These images use the http.debian.net redirector service in APT's sources.list
for obtaining packages. The privileged user is 'admin', with sudo -i access to
root. UserData with a shell script is supported, as already shown in previous
images. The root file system is ext4, and is resized on boot (so you can chose
to have a larger root volume if you wish).

I'd appreciate some immediate testing for those that have time. If you are a
DD, I can will happily give you access to this account to start an instance and
test it.

I am now tidying out older images generated in other Regions from this account.
This pair of final images are about to be handed over to the AWS Marketplace
team, who will replicate this image identically to all regions for us. I am
completing the product listing, having already supplied the AWS Marketplace
team with the organization details required, and agreeing to the terms and
Conditions, all of which were passed to Stefano for his review in advance of
this.

The estimated date for publishing this image via marketplace is over this
coming weekend, hence I am trying to finish off this image as soon as possible.
I believe we have met the requirements of this community to produce an image
that contains only Free software, and produced using only Free software. I
thank all those who have contributed for their time and effort, not the least
of which are Stefano, Anders and Charles.

I am now clearing out the older generated images we have previously tested
(except the most recent in each region, until the Marketplace team have
replicated these two. I will also release a sample CloudFormation template
using this final image. I intend to start writing to
http://wiki.debian.org/Cloud/AmazonEC2Image with the notes above and the final
AMI IDs. I will preserve the current AMIs from the current contributors.

However, while this phase of work completes, we turn now to testing images for
Wheezy; and in a week I hope we can start to look at that. I would ask for more
volunteers to help Charles with cloud-init as previously asked.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me
directly.

  James
