One need simply ask himself, why is the cost every procedure covered by managed care going up, while the cost of out-of-pocket elective procedures going *down*?! Oh wait, it is because there is competition in the marketplace.
I was discussing this issue with someone at work last week. I was blown away when he told me that about 24% of health insurance premiums to go the insurance companies as profit and operating expenses. Think about it. They are basically glorified (maybe not) money managers. The SEC would have an absolute fit if there were investment banks out there charging such ridiculously high administrative fees. Why do we tolerate it from the insurance companies? Oh right, it is basically a government protected monopoly/cartel. Regards, -Roberto -- Roberto C.
