A lock file called Archive-Update-in-Progress-`hostname -f` is used by the ftpsync which is the canonical mirroring method; however, not all mirrors do that, nor does any client program check for it. I guess it wouldn't be hard to make a script to try wgetting such a file and abort if successful and hook it up before apt-get somehow... -- Digital Electronic Being Intended for Assassination and Nullification
