Mutt is pretty good about displaying different charsets, maybe even better than some of the "graphical" mailers. Run unicode_start on the console and load up a large console font, or run xterm -u8 with fixed or unifont, if you need more than 512 characters, and mutt will handle all the conversions and display just about everything.
