On further analysis, I find that this only happens in gnome-terminal, not in xterm. That may help to narrow down the problem, and it does seem to exonerate libreadline4, does it not? Bill, does this fit what you're seeing? If you're a gnome-terminal user, can you try it in xterm to verify that the problem is unique to gnome-terminal? Craig
