man make-kpkg Debian is *wonderful* for kernel development, but I wouldn't touch Herbert's kernels with a ten-feet pole. And yes, new kernels work fine on -stable: $ grep '^deb ' /etc/apt/sources.list deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian woody main contrib non-free deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian woody-proposed-updates main contrib non-free deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US woody/non-US main contrib non-free deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US woody-proposed-updates/non-US main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org woody/updates main contrib non-free $ uname -a Linux miles 2.4.23-pre8 #1 Fri Oct 24 02:08:34 EDT 2003 alpha unknown $ - no need to put -testing on the firewall box. The rest of Linux boxen run -testing here...
