You could shamelessly name the new version 1.0 1.0.0 which would be more recent than 1.0cr2 for dpkg. Also, for future versions, don't name 2.6preSomething that way but 2.5.99.99.99.99.99.99.99.99.99-2.6preSomething or similar.
