It's useful to try to clarify the terms so people can speak the same language, but as soon as you categorize anything somebody's going to come out with something which fits in multiple categories. Anything which isn't just a subset of Debian will ultimately just be a distraction, in which case the # of "flavors" is the cardinality of the power set of packages. :-)
