Yeah, ok, but mplayer was rejected, and is now in many-year-NEW-limbo, for
licencing reasons, which i believe are the same for ubuntu and debian, maybe
worse for ubuntu evem.

Ok, so what ? The real point is that the discussion about mplayer degraded a
couple year ago and has since then been held in limbo, no ? 

So if the licencing issues have been solved in such a way that ubuntu carries
it, discussion about its inclusion in debian could start again, and if not,
maybe ubuntu should drop it too.

Also, many of the key persons behind mplayers rejection back then now work at
ubuntu, right ?
