as i said ... in many cases it wont ...

in those servers i run samba/ftp/http . backup script is ordered by the
user.

simple pages in /var/www and user's home.

one is also a mail server with no backup.

here ... update & upgrade would not break anything ... and the changes
are easy to revert (install older packages, pin them and wait for the
bug to be fixed).

We (admins) allways hope that the behaviour of the packages don't
change, that's why we all use debian. Still, things can happen.

I must remember you that is is a small business server. less than 10
posts. Imagine a person that has 10 clients like this?

of course that the upgrade time must be set ... imagine all 10 break at
the same time :P

in resume, i think you are right ... but not all situations require such
a "right" handling.
