I used fortran some while ago ... -ff90 seems to be to the compiler use
the fortran90 syntax.

fortran is like SQL ... SQL90, SQL92 ... they are the year of the
revisions.

g77 stands for the 1977 revision.
-ff90 stands for the 1990 revision.
