Yes that's my reaction also. System admins might regard multi-threaded as the key to high performance. As programmers we consider it the key to increased complexity and therefore more bugs. Multi-threaded does allow you to use more than one CPU, but in the case of syslogd ultimately the log file has to end up on disk anyway.
